If you need to pay motor vehicle taxes to receive clearance with the DMV, come to the Tax Collector's Office to pay IN PERSON between 8:30 am - 4 pm on Thursday October 6. Otherwise you will NOT be able to receive clearance until Tuesday Oct. 11 or Wednesday Oct. 12.
This is because we are having a software upgrade on Friday, Oct. 7 and will be unable to process any payments that day. This will be followed by the Columbus Day holiday weekend. City Hall is closed Monday October 10.
Payments made online from Thursday, October 7 (online, not in person) through and including Monday, October 10 will not be posted by us until Tuesday, October 11 and you will not be cleared for DMV until Wednesday, October 12.
Tax Collector’s Office Window Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4 pm. We do not close for lunch. City Hall is closed Monday Oct. 10 in observance of Columbus Day.
The Tax Collector's Office will be unable to process any payments, and unable to look up amounts due or amounts paid on Friday, October 7. Our computer software is being upgraded, and we will not have access to our system that day.
We will resume normal operations after the (Columbus Day) holiday weekend on Tuesday morning, Oct. 11. We are very mindful of the inconvenience to our taxpayers, and apologize in advance.

The last day to pay current taxes was Monday, August 1, 2022. Tax bills were mailed to all Norwalk taxpayers beginning Friday, June 24. They were "due" July 1 but payable without interest on or before August 1.
Interest for the month of October 2022 on currently due bills (due July 1, 2022, payable by August 1, 2022) is charged at the rate of 6%. Interest is not per diem, but charged by the month. Payments made in October are subject to 4 months interest, at the statutory rate of 1.5% per month, going back to the July 1 due date.
