Are my parents' medical expenses taxable?
An amount of money that your parents give you to offset their expenses isn't taxable to you. This amount is treated as support provided by your parents in determining whether your parents are your dependents. See Publication 501, Dependents, Standard Deduction and Filing Information. How to claim child tax relief?
Go to “Individuals” > “File Income Tax Return”. Select “Edit My Tax Form”. Go to “4. Deductions, Reliefs and Parenthood Tax Rebate”. Go to “Parent/ Handicapped Parent”. Click “Update” and enter your claim. If the relief has been allowed to you last year, the amount will be pre-filled and granted to you automatically this year.
Who is entitled to medical treatment for parents?
Those who did not make a claim for medical treatment for parents are entitled to this relief. Parents must be legitimate or legally adoptive parents (stepparents not included), aged 60 years and above, and each parent’s annual income from all sources must not exceed RM24,000 for that year of assessment.
What medical expenses can I claim for tax relief?
For this medical expense, you can claim up to RM1000, and it is applicable for any complete medical examinations done on you, your spouse, or your children. And the final medical expense that you can claim for tax relief is for any type of COVID-19 detection tests, including the self-test detection kits.
