US Supreme Court to consider use of race in college admissions
The US Supreme Court will on Monday hear arguments in a pair of cases that could upend the use of affirmative action based on race in college admissions.
The court’s decision could significantly affect how American universities, some of the most sought-after education institutions worldwide, manage admissions, and result in radical changes to a system that for decades has taken race into account with the aim of building diverse student bodies.
Olatunde Johnson, professor at Columbia Law School, said there was “certainly a risk” that a ruling against the universities could curb the diversity of student bodies and make colleges “vulnerable over fear . . .[of] lawsuits”.
The companies said that “promoting the benefits of diversity . . . among their workforces is essential to meet client needs, achieve business goals, and strengthen relationships both internally and with the communities” they serve.
